Vicki Kalira

Mia is a dedicated and experienced Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a rich educational background and a focus on psychiatry and neurology research.

Mia earned her BA in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), her Masters of Science in Nursing from Western University of Health Sciences, and a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Post Master’s Certificate from Azusa Pacific University. She served as a psychiatry and neurology research nurse at Cedars-Sinai before entering Johns Hopkins University where she is currently pursuing her PhD.

Mia's research centers on traumatic brain injury, specifically the investigation of biomarkers predictive of post-concussion symptoms and mental health sequelae such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and PTSD. Additionally, Mia aims to expand research on biomarkers and predictive outcomes for females, a uniquely vulnerable and underrepresented group in concussion research. Further, Mia is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) psychotherapy.

She has worked as a PMHNP at Sheppard Pratt, a top psychiatric hospital in Maryland and was the first PMHNP student to receive training in Consult-Liaison Psychiatry at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Before becoming a PMHNP, Mia worked as a psychiatric nurse in various settings, including inpatient adolescent, adult, chemical dependency, ICU, and emergency departments in Los Angeles, CA.

Her extensive experience and commitment to advancing the field of psychiatric and neurological research make her a valuable asset to the mental health community. Mia offers medication management and psychotherapy services to patients. The Mental Health Center is thrilled to work with such a skilled and passionate mental health professional.
