KETAMINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY (KAP)
A ketamine treatment session has the potential to create a unique state of consciousness and facilitate a profound experience that can change one’s perspective on life. The psychedelic aspects of the ketamine experience may open a person up to think, feel, and talk about their lives in ways they are typically not willing or able to. Thus, besides the biochemical activity of ketamine as a medication, it can confer additional benefit by serving as a tool within psychotherapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been shown to extend the duration of benefit from ketamine treatment,8 and it is very likely that any form of therapy can carry this same benefit. While coupling therapy with ketamine treatment is not mandatory, we believe ketamine sessions are most effective when paired with psychotherapy. Psychotherapy during or after your ketamine sessions, known as Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). Psychotherapists working with us have years of experience and are trained in modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). We allow your usual therapist based outside our office to attend your treatment sessions in person or via video. You may also choose to see them later the same day or the next day, since most experts say the benefit of ketamine on psychotherapy lasts for up to 36 hours after a treatment.
